Tales of The Destinies

We have no luck!  We are unlucky!
Our answer is always...
We can't help it!  It can't be helped!
"not", "not", "not", "not"!
That is not it!  This is not it!
Where is the answer?
Nowhere!  Nowhere!  Nowhere!  Nowhere!
Nowhere, nowhere, nowhere, nowhere, nowhere, nowhere!

Don't worry, don't worry!  Now we're going to reborn.
Let's begin the countdown!
Set me free!

[Three, two, one, three, two, one, zero?]
[Three, two, one, three, two, one, zero?]

It never stops [it never stops].  It never ends [it never ends].
It's an unlimited melody [melody].
We [we] never look back,
Now and Forever.
It is our eternal memory.
THE ONE will be with you.
We are The Destinies.

Isn't it useless?  It's not useless!
No, no, no, no!
Isn't it impossible?  It's not impossible!
Isn't it a dream?  It's not a dream!
No, no, no, no!
Isn't it now?  It's not now!

Can't stop me, can't stop me now.  Now it starts.
Let's aim at the big chance!
Get ready!

[Three, two, one, three, two, one, zero?]
[Three, two, one, three, two, one, zero?]

It never stops [it never stops].  It never ends [it never ends].
It's an endless journey [journey].
We [we] are not alone,
Now and Forever.
It is our destiny.
THE ONE will be with you.
We are The Destinies.

[i] About "The Destinies"

Probably "The Destinies" (plural & capitalized with a definite article) suggests the Three Goddesses of Fates of Greek mythology, and also suggests SU-METAL, YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL, so the title can be interpreted as "the stories of SU-METAL, YUIMETAL & MOAMETAL. As some readers have already commented below, this song is paired with "THE ONE", and the lyrics of both songs have something in common.

Notes

  1. Some lines are sung by MOAMETAL (the former half) or YUIMETAL (the latter half) or both. I marked these lines with M, Y, & MY, but I'm not so sure that these lines (& repeated "owara-nai", etc. in brackets) are sung by MOAMETAL or YUIMETAL or both because the voices are heavily processed.
  2. At first, I thought the 2nd line leads to the 3rd (= "Our answer is 'we can't help it'."), but it seems better to think the 2nd line leads to the 4th (i.e. our answer is always negative) and the 1st & the 3rd lines are examples of negative sentences.
  3. Both "shikata nai" and "shô (= shiyô) ga nai" mean "there is no way to do it".
  4. Probably "Nai na nai" is 3 "nai"s and the second is shortened to be fit to the melody.
  5. Grammatically, "nai" of this line means not "nowhere" but "doesn't exist".
  6. It is unclear to which line "Now and Forever" attaches because the original lyric (according to custom) has no punctuation and both the preceding & the following lines are well understandable by themselves, but it seems better to think it attaches to the preceding lines.
  7. There is a possibility that "warera ga" is the old form of "warera no" and means "our", but I think this interpretation is not fit to the capitalized English word with a definite article.
  8. The form of "--- ja nai (ka)?" (= --- de wa nai ka?) is something like a tag question or a rhetorical question. That is, the speaker is (somewhat) affirmative to the main part. In these lines, the former thinks it is probably xxx and the latter says it is not xxx. (Revised on 2017 Jan. 20.)
  9. "Dame" originally means "worthless" in the game of "go" but now also means "useless", "bad", "forbidden", "impossible", etc.
  10. I feel it a bit strange that "now" (a somewhat positive word) is negated here because the whole sentence sounds somehow negative. In the previous lines, (somewhat) negative words are negated and the whole sentences sound somewhat positive.
Sometimes "--- ja nai!" form is used affirmatively. That is, it somtimes means "It is now!" (= Can't you see it is now?) instead of "It isn't now!" or "Isn't it now?". The lyric writers may have meant this, but then "ja nai" must not be stressed like this line, so it's very difficult for this "Ima ja nai!" to mean "It is now!". (Appended on 2017 Jan. 20.)

  1. When I heard this song for few times, I felt like this song is the parody of the song "The One"

The composition is just similar with "The One", but the arrangement mixed up into some kind of like funny hearing :v

  2. I think it is an overture so to speak to the opus, The One as the piano solo plays the guitar riff and leads into The One..Whoever decided not to link both together but put in the usual spacer missed a great opportunity.

    1. That can be true. Thanks for pointing it out :'D

    2. Also, the melody from the beginning of the song (0:30 specifically) is the exact same melody from the beginning of The One, but played much faster

So there is with no doubt a connection between these two songs

    1. He did, in CD & DL DATA magazine he said (translated):
These songs are kind of a pair, originally one song and we divided it; it took quite a long time in arrangements.

Also, the writer team Mish-Mosh said (translated):
"THE ONE" is a song that expands from a riff of "Tales of The Destinies", so those two songs add up to a 12 minutes suite in the style of prog metal.

  4. First, thank you for all the translations. Understanding what is sung helps me appreciate the songs even more. Second, this song to me is very reminiscent of Dream Theater, specifically the Metropolis Pt. II: Scenes from a Memory album. Very impressive.

  8. Without considering The One, it sounds like this song is meant to be an encouragement from "The Destinies," or our beloved singers, to chase after our dreams. They refute the usual questions and anxieties that are used to stop ourselves, believing that we can't or now's not the time, etc. This all leads up to the last stanza which sounds like it's an understanding of how difficult it can seem, as life is a never ending journey of challenges, but if nothing else, whoever the One refers to, and the Destinies, will believe in you if no one else can. In short, it sounds like its encouragement from the band that they feel doubts sometimes, they feel anxieties, but destinies are ours to control as long as we have faith, and they have gone through this same thing so they can reassure us that their belief that we can follow our dreams isn't empty.
